Lara van Nek: “My goal was just to ride well.”

Lara van Nek claimed victory this morning in the Lövsta Future Challenge International Tour U25 Grand Prix at Jumping Amsterdam. She rode the 16-year-old KWPN horse All at Once (by Ampère) to a winning score of 69.538%. Lara was placed at the top by all judges. Lara stayed well ahead of Swedish rider Cecilia Bergåkra with the 15-year-old Swedish-bred My Friend (by Friendship). Cecilia’s U25 Grand Prix with her mare was scored at 67.949%. Robin Heiden also delivered a good performance for the Netherlands. In the saddle of the 14-year-old KWPN horse Hollywood (by Cocktail), she received 66.769%. This score earned her third place.

“I was able to ride well”

“It was a very nice test. He was well balanced, I was able to ride him well, and he listened very well to what I asked of him. I started the test without any expectations, and my goal was just to enjoy riding. The piaffe and passages were the highlights of the test. It’s already super cool that I get to ride in the U25 at Jumping Amsterdam. He also gives me a lot of confidence because he has competed in this arena several times before.”

Cheerful freestyle

“I’m really looking forward to the freestyle tomorrow. I’m riding to music by Robbie Williams. It’s well-known music and suits him. It’s a cheerful freestyle that makes everyone happy. I’ve adjusted the order of the walk, trot, and canter a bit because it suits him better. The lines are the same, though.”

‘All at Once taught me the Grand Prix’

‘With Yessin, All at Once competed in Paris in 2024 and in Tokyo in 2021 at the Olympic Games. I have been riding him for about a year now. It is, of course, wonderful to take over such a horse. I was lucky to be able to take him over and I am very happy about that. My mother, Willeke Bos, is the owner, of course. Yessin trained him well, which made it very easy for me to take him over. I also have to learn the Grand Prix, because this is my first time riding at this level. So it’s great that All at Once already has experience with this and is capable of it. So he taught me the Grand Prix.”
